I’ve always loved basketball, but somewhere along the way I realized I love coaching it even more. Even when I was playing, I found myself watching the coaches—trying to understand what they were seeing and how they were teaching it. I played in high school and at the NAIA level, but my passion really took off during grad school when I volunteered to help coach at my old high school. That experience stuck with me.

When I moved to Lexington, I emailed just about every coach in the area looking for a way to stay involved. Woodford County gave me that opportunity, and I spent four years there learning, growing, and helping kids develop their game. I had the chance to work alongside Scott Hundley—The Legend—which was a privilege in itself. Eventually, family life (and a growing number of kids) pulled me away from high school coaching—but not away from basketball.

These days, most of my time is spent at fields and gyms watching my own kids play, and coaching their rec league teams. That experience gave me a different perspective and led me back to the same question: what’s the best way to actually teach kids basketball? Too many kids quit before they ever get to enjoy it because they never get comfortable with the ball. It’s not flashy, it takes patience, and it can be frustrating. But it’s where confidence starts—and everything builds from there. That’s when they finally get to experience the really fun stuff.

Lexington Basketball Club was built from that idea. This is a place where kids can take their time, build real skill, and enjoy the process. We’ll play games, we’ll compete, and we’ll have fun—but the goal is bigger than that. It’s about giving kids the time and confidence to truly grow into the game, so they can love it for years to come.
